Government Resources
Call your local representative’s office and ask for support for housing, childcare, healthcare, food, and other resources. Your local government’s website is also a great place to start. Social workers at your child’s school or through your doctor or local hospital can also connect you with support resources.
WIC - “The Women, Infant, and Children program aims to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.” Even if you don’t think you’d qualify, you can usually connect with someone at these offices who can point you toward other available resources.
HUD - The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has programs and support staff who may be able to help you access affordable housing.
HealthCare.gov - Find information about affordable healthcare.
SNAP - “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being.”
TANF - “The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides states and territories with flexibility in operating programs designed to help low-income families with children achieve economic self-sufficiency. States use TANF to fund monthly cash assistance payments to low-income families with children, as well as a wide range of services.”
